Hi, we’re Blight Free Birmingham (BFB)!
We are an organization dedicated to increasing homeownership, decreasing abandoned parcels, and improving neighborhood well-being. Our initial focus evolves around blight removal - hence the name. By canvassing neighborhoods, targeting, and removing blight, we serve as an economic catalyst for current and future homeowners.
Our strategy is comprehensive, intentional, and it grows as we do. With hard work, perseverance, and strong relationships with community organizations, we strive to create a more beautiful and economically prosperous Birmingham for all people.
Our Impact
When Blight Free Birmingham was first created, our team’s vision was to create a more beautiful Birmingham.
Neighborhood by neighborhood, block by block, parcel by parcel, we planned to use all of our resources to identify, acquire, and remove blight.
By doing so, we believe that we will positively, and directly impact citizens’ well-being and property value.

Our Plan
At Blight Free Birmingham, our title is our mission. We envision a blight free Birmingham with high percentages of homeowners, low percentages of blight, and a sense of community well being.
To fulfill our vision, we focus on executing our mission - to catalyze blight elimination, increased homeowners, and communal economic prosperity.
-
Blight brings down property value, deters people from investing in communities, and decreases the chance of property development in its proximity. Typically, when a community is overrun with blight, there is a low chance that new-stick construction or businesses will start in this area. For those reasons, we believe blight removal is the first step towards true community upliftment.
-
When BFB acquires a parcel, our immediate goal is to remove any blight. Blight can be in the form of tall grass, burned/condemned structures, or structures that need some level of renovation. After that’s done, our plan is substantially improve the parcel by building a community ammenity or by building affordable housing.
-
If parcels are too small (zoning) for new construction, we plan to engage with surrounding residents to find a useful solution.
-
We will! We will also make sure that all maintenance, landscaping, and demolition work will be conducted by a local workforce.
-
Absolutely not. If we are approached by an individual or organization that would like to purchase and build on a lot, we will be open to vet out a potential development project if there are no plans.
Contact us.
We thrive on feedback and critique. Please reach out with questions, comments, and feedback.
If you know of ANY blighted properties that have been unmaintained, have condemned structures, or have been a nuisance to residents, let us help you.
Our vision evolves with your input!
